Just like that, another year is over. The Chicago Blackhawks have won their third Stanley Cup in six years, elevating the team’s exciting roster to dynasty status. There were just five players from the QMJHL selected in the first two rounds of the 2014 NHL Draft; this year, it’ll be a shock if that number isn’t at least doubled. In fact, Nikolaj Ehlers was the only QMJHL player to be taken in the first round, whereas at least four or five are expected to be taken in the 2015 NHL Draft. Read more»

Among North American skaters ranked 11 through 24 in NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings for the 2015 NHL Draft, the WHL and QMJHL claim a majority of them. Veleno the latest exceptional junior as Sea Dogs make him top pick in QMJHL draft

Joseph Veleno will now be associated with an elite group of young players, some of whom are already established stars in the NHL.

The 15 year old Veleno, who isn’t NHL Draft-eligible until 2018, was selected first overall by the Saint John Sea Dogs in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft on Saturday. He was a year younger than anyone else eligible, and becomes just the fifth player in CHL history to have been granted “exceptional player” status, the first outside of the OHL. Read more»
