The San Jose Sharks have seen some of their prospects demonstrate solid development over the 2011-12 season while others have been seemingly stuck in neutral. Benn Ferriero and Justin Braun have graduated since the last Top 20 list while others such as Taylor Doherty, Harri Sateri, Nick Petrecki, and Brandon Mashinter have seen their stock decline over the season. The organization signed several quality free agents this spring including Travis Oleksuk, Matt Tennyson, and Sebastien Stalberg.

The San Jose Sharks prospect pool saw a varied amount of post-season experience in 2011-12, with players representing the organization at almost every level of junior hockey.
Below is the bottom third of the ranking of the prospect depth of the NHL organizations as voted by the Hockey's Future staff. To determine the ranking, each team's entire prospect pool was taken into consideration. For reference, just the top five prospects are listed. To be eligible, a prospect must meet HF's prospect criteria. The rankings are done twice each season, in the fall and spring.

The San Jose Sharks have good variety in their prospects group at the NCAA level but no prospects playing in Europe. The Sharks did have one European prospect in Daniil Sobchenko, but he tragically perished in an airplane crash with fellow Lokomotiv Yaraslavl teammates on September 7th, 2011.
The team has drafted a good mix of speed, skill, physicality, size and grit with six forwards and three defensemen having played this past season in the NCAA. There will most likely be no players leaving early to play at the professional level as most will need more development time in the NCAA.
