For reference, just the top five prospects are listed. To be eligible, a prospect must meet HF's prospect criteria. The ranking is done twice a year, with this edition being an update to the Fall ranking. For reference, each team's previous rank is listed in parenthesis.

San Jose Sharks maintain large group of NCAA prospects

In recent years, the San Jose Sharks have become big-time players in the NCAA. Not only have they been victors in the free agent signing frenzy for the past few seasons, adding significant pieces to their prospect pool, but they seem to be drafting an increased number of young players choosing to take the college route for their developmental needs, especially in the later rounds of the draft.

Michael Brodzinski (SJS) is part of a young but outstanding group of defenseman for the University of Minnesota this season. The Ham Lake, MN native is the younger brother of St Cloud State forward Jonny Brodzinski (LAK). The younger Brodzinski has played in 24 games to date for Minnesota, posting 13 points (six goals, seven assists).

Top 50: Barkov, Drouin top Spring ranking of NHL’s top prospects

The Spring edition of the Hockey's Future ranking of the Top 50 NHL prospects concludes with the prospects ranked 1-10. The top prospect is Florida Panthers forward Aleksander Barkov, who narrowly beat out Jonathan Drouin for top honors in the ranking.
