Recent draft picks fill St. Louis Blues Fall 2014 Top 20

While Jake Allen has enjoyed a long run as the St. Louis Blues’ top prospect since Vladimir Tarasenko and Jaden Schwartz graduated, the time has come for the young goaltender to pass the torch. The key additions to the Fall 2014 Top 20 include the Blues’ top two picks from the 2014 NHL Draft, Robby Fabbri and Ivan Barbashev. As new players make their way onto the list, others like Yannick Veilleux, Petteri Lindbohm and Sergei Andronov have been forced to take a back seat in the latest edition of the Blues’ Top 20.

With 10 picks, the St. Louis Blues used the 2014 NHL Draft to replenish their coffers and added some very respectable talent to the pipeline. This was the first time since 2008 the Blues drafted double-digit players, and based on their success the last time around, this could be considered an extremely important draft for the Blues down the line. The Vancouver Canucks figure to have a new look in the coming years with new general manager Jim Benning and a new head coach in Willie Desjardins. The makeover in Vancouver started on Friday afternoon even before the 2014 NHL Draft began when the Canucks engineered a series of trades — one of which sent veteran Ryan Kesler to the Anaheim Ducks in a multi-player deal.

While the St. Louis Blues have not won a Stanley Cup, the current team they have put together seems to be on the right track.  There are very few holes on the NHL team, but they are running out of resources at the lower levels of hockey.
