60 collegians (current or future) representing 29 NCAA programs and 27 NHL teams were taken in the 2013 NHL Draft. The 60 players selected are slightly down from last year when 66 committed players (at the time of the draft) were taken.

If one were to believe the content within the sheer volume of NHL trade rumors that clogged up trade blogs and message boards leading up to the 2013 NHL Draft, it would have been easy to come away thinking that every draft pick and player in the league was in play.

While he might not sport the offensive credentials that some of his fellow defensemen in the 2013 NHL Draft class possess, U.S. NTDP defender Steve Santini has shown enough in other areas of his game to be considered a potential first round pick in this draft.

With the 2012-13 CHL season now officially in the books, attention has turned to the 2013 NHL Draft that takes place on June 30th in Newark, NJ. As it happens, the players generally considered to be the top 3 prospects for this draft – Portland Winterhawks defenseman Seth Jones, and Halifax Mooseheads forwards Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin – all happen to be players that competed in the CHL this past season.
