He has gone coast-to-coast atop the rankings for the 2016 NHL Draft, so the likelihood that center Auston Matthews will be passed over for Finnish star Patrik Laine seems unlikely. The Toronto Maple Leafs, holders of the first pick in this year’s draft, will ultimately decide Matthews fate, but it seems likely that the Scottsdale, AZ native will be donning the blue-and-white at next Friday’s proceedings. The 2016 edition of the NHL Scouting Combine is again taking place at HarborCenter in Buffalo, NY, right next door to the home of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres, First Niagara Center (soon to be known as KeyBank Center). 114 prospects for the 2016 NHL Draft have been in town this week to take part in the interview and testing phases of the Combine, with the main testing session taking place on Saturday.
