The Washington Capitals prospect pool contains plenty of depth and variety, with players of every make and model. The organization has also done a good job of staggering their talent across many competition levels and has several players at the minor-league level ready for a call-up to the NHL.

The Fall edition of the Hockey’s Future ranking of the Top 50 NHL prospects concludes with the top 10 prospects, led by Montreal’s Alex Galchenyuk. The top spots were tightly contested with many of the prospects already having made their mark in the NHL.

The Washington Capitals have worked hard at retooling their system over the last several seasons and are starting to see the fruits of that labor, with a list of players of all shapes and sizes, from all leagues, and of all different styles.

The Washington Capitals came into the 2013 NHL Draft with eight picks. There was speculation that the Capitals could trade their first round pick at number 23 in order to either move up or move down. As it turns out, both options were considered.

The Washington Capitals had 14 drafted players appear on their NHL roster this season including eight former first round picks. They have had a knack for developing their high end prospects to be impact players on the team, but the prospect depth is not as deep as it was in previous years.
