Team USA earned the chance to face the team that knocked them out of last year’s tournament after posting a 7-0 win over the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals of the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship. The playoff round of the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship begins tomorrow with the quarterfinal matchups featuring the non-relegated teams from Group A and Group B, although the first relegation game in the best-of-three series will also take place. Team Canada ran the table on the way to gold at last year’s World Juniors, but their path to a U20 title will be a little trickier at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship. Team Czech Republic has shown themselves to be a strong opponent in their four preliminary round games at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship. They gave the high-powered squad from Finland all they could handle in their New Year’s Eve showdown, but ultimately fell to the Finns by a 5-4 score.
