Picard-Hooper and Bodnarchuk win TELUS player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, November 19, 2007 – Saint John Sea Dogs forward Alexandre Picard-Hooper and Halifax Mooseheads defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from November 12 to 18.

In three road games, Picard-Hooper registered one goal and nine assists, playing a part in ten of the team’s fourteen goals (71%) over that span. The Sea Dogs’ 20 year-old forward enjoyed his best outing of the week on Wednesday, scoring a goal and adding four helpers in a 7-6 loss against the Remparts. Since joining the Sea Dogs following a trade with Baie-Comeau in September, Picard-Hooper has registered 26 points in 22 games.

Jakub Voracek (5-3-8) of the Mooseheads, Kelsey Tessier (2-5-7) of the Remparts and Keven Veilleux (0-7-7) of the Tigres were also considered.

The defensive player of the week award goes to Halifax Mooseheads defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk. In four road games, he scored one goal and assisted on five others while maintaining a +3 rating. Bodnarchuk also mashed opponents with his impressive total of ten bodychecks. The Mooseheads allowed only ten goals during the course of the week and have now won their last eight contests.

Goaltenders Ryan Mior (3-2-1; 1 SO; 179 MIN; 1.33 GAA; .951 SAV%) of the Olympiques and Jhase Sniderman (3-3-0; 180 MIN; 2.00 GAA; .930 SAV%) of the Huskies, as well as defenseman Marc-André Dorion (1-3-4; +3) of the Drakkar were also considered.
