Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Performers of the Month for December 2007.
OHL Player of the Month – Jack Combs, Saginaw Spirit
Combs was named OHL player of the month after leading the league in scoring for the month of December with nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 11 games. The 19-year-old from St. Louis, MO had at least one point in all but one game last month and returned from the Christmas break with back-to-back four point games. He scored 20 points in a nine game scoring streak to close out the month and helped the Spirit to a 7-3-1-0 record during December. He is fifth in OHL scoring with 27 goals and 34 assists for 61 points in 37 games.
OHL Goaltender of the Month – Thomas McCollum, Guelph Storm
McCollum was named OHL goaltender of the month after posting a 5-0-1-2 record with a 1.69 goals against average, .935 save percentage and three shutouts in eight games. McCollum, who turned 18 on December 7, allowed just two goals during a five game stretch and was named CHL goaltender of the week twice. The Sanborn, NY native improved to 11-10-3-3 with a 2.72 goals against average, .905 save percentage and three shutouts in 28 games this season. He is the OHL’s top rated goaltending prospect for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
OHL Rookie of the Month – Ryan O’Reilly, Erie Otters
O’Reilly was named the OHL’s top rookie in December after scoring three goals and adding eight assists for 11 points in six games. The 16-year-old from Varna, Ontario had four multiple point games in December, including back-to-back three pointers against Sarnia on December 7 and London on December 8. O’Reilly, the first overall pick in the OHL Priority Selection last May, left the Otters at the Christmas break to play for Team Ontario in the World Under-17 Challenge in London. He captained Ontario to the gold medal at the tournament. O’Reilly is tied for second among OHL rookie scorers with 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points in 32 games.
OHL Defenceman of the Month – Michael Del Zotto, Oshawa Generals
Del Zotto was named OHL defenceman of the month after leading all blueliners with 11 points on two goals and nine assists in seven games. He had three assists in Oshawa’s win over Peterborough on December 7 and had a goal and two assists in a win over Barrie on December 29. Del Zotto, a top prospect for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, has scored seven goals and 27 assists for 34 points in 37 games this season. The 17-year-old from Stouffville, Ontario was the second overall pick in the 2006 OHL Priority Selection.
