After competing with a more experienced squad at last year's World Junior Championship, a performance that featured decidedly more offense than one might expect from Finland, the Finns entered the 2014 WJC in Malmo, Sweden with a squad that is largely getting their feet wet at the Under-20 level.

One of those U-20 newcomers is forward Esa Lindell, a Dallas Stars defensive prospect who has split time between Jokerit in Finland's top league and Kiekko-Vanta in Mestis, the next step down from Liiga. Although he has not put up big numbers so far this season, Lindell has generated offense from the blueline at lower levels of the game, and is generally viewed as more of an offensive defenseman who remains a bit rough around the edges.

So far at this year's WJC, Lindell has potted one goal, which came in the 4-2 loss to Sweden on Saturday.

Lindell spoke with Hockey's Future following his country's opening win over Norway, a conversation that is captured in this HF video.
