Germany didn't accomplish their goal of reaching the playoff round at the 2014 IIHF U18 World Championship, and instead will have to beat out Denmark to avoid relegation to a lower level for next year's U18 tournament.

The Germans failed to win a game in the preliminary round, scoring eight goals while giving up 23. Although they put forth a game effort in their four matches, Germany's lineup this year does not sport a high-profile talent like Leon Draisaitl to help raise the performance of those around him.

One player competing for Germany who is trying to gain some attention in his draft year is defenseman Patrick Kurz. Although Kurz produced like an offensive defenseman while playing for Jungadler Mannheim's U18 squad this season, he hasn't been able to produce any points at this tournament.

Kurz spoke with Hockey's Future following Germany's loss to Russia, a conversation captured in this HF video.
