Screaming Eagles’ Roy named ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Olivier Roy of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 11.  Roy posted a 3-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.67 and a save percentage of .950.  

Roy stopped 34 shots including 19 in the third period to beat the Gatineau Olympiques last Wednesday night 3-2 at Centre 200 in Cape Breton and earned first star of the game honours for his play.  On Friday night the Screaming Eagles travelled to Acadie-Bathurst to take on the Titan and Roy was again victorious making 26 saves in the 4-2 win.  His week concluded on Sunday with a 4-1 win over the highly ranked Moncton Wildcats.  Roy was again named first star of the game making 36 saves for the win.

Roy, a 17-year-old from Amqui, QC, is a two-time recipient of the award this season having won back in October for the week ending October 5.  Last season Roy won the RDS Cup as the QMJHL Rookie of the Year.  He is currently second in the league with 25 wins.  Roy is eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and started in goal this week in the 2009 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game for Team Orr where he allowed just one goal on 17 shots in the 6-1 win.

Nominated this week from the WHL is James Reid of the Spokane Chiefs who went 2-0-0-0 including a shutout victory Saturday over the Everett Silvertips where he made 25 saves and was first star of the game.  In the OHL, December Goaltender of the Month Mike Murphy of the Belleville Bulls was outstanding posting a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .963 save percentage in two wins including a 49 save and first star performance in a 3-1 win over the Plymouth Whalers on Saturday.
