Giants’ Pierro-Zabotel named Husky WHL Player of the Month

CALGARY, AB. – The Western Hockey League announced today that forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel, of the Vancouver Giants, has been named the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for January.

Pierro-Zabotel, 20, is in his second year with the Giants and is enjoying a record setting campaign. Over this past month, he has scored nine goals and added 19 assists for 28 points. In that span, Pierro-Zabotel has established new Giants records for assists (62) and points (89) in a single season.

Over the month of January, the Giants posted a record of 13-2. Pierro-Zabotel had points in 13 of those games, including four games where he had at least three points, as well as one four point and one five point game. He was also named the games 1st Star on three different occasions.

With 89 points on the season, Pierro-Zabotel now leads the WHL in scoring and is also the leader in plus/minus with an impressive rating of +54. His team also holds down first place in the WHL, Western Conference and BC Division with a record of 44-4-0-3, good for 91 points through just 51 games this season.

Pierro-Zabotel, from Kamloops, British Columbia, joined the Giants last year after playing three seasons in the BCHL with the Merritt Centennials. At the 2007 NHL Entry Draft Pierro-Zabotel was selected in the 3rd round – 80th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins.


His accomplishments make Casey Pierro-Zabotel a deserving choice as the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for January.
