Calgary Hitmen’s Brandon Kozun named Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. – The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Brandon Kozun of the Calgary Hitmen. 

Kozun picked up 11 points, scoring five goals and six assists to go with a +9 rating in four games over the past week, helping the Hitmen post a 4-0-0-0 road record in that span.
On Tuesday, February 10th, the Hitmen played host to the Kamloops Blazers at the Pengrowth Saddledome.  Kozun netted two goals and an assist as the Hitmen downed the Blazers 8-1.  He was also named the games 1st Star.
On Friday, February 13th, the Hitmen began a three game road trip through the prairies with the first stop at Westman Place in the Keystone Centre to face the Brandon Wheat Kings.  Kozun picked up one assist in the 4-2 victory over the Wheaties.  The next night, Saturday, February 14th, the Hitmen were in Regina to take on the Pats.  Kozun had another two goal performance and picked up an assist as the Hitmen downed the Pats 5-2 and earned 1st Star honors following the game.
The Hitmen rounded out three games in three nights at the Civic Centre in Moose Jaw on Sunday, February 15th, taking on the Warriors.  Kozun scored one goal and three assists with the Hitmen defeating the Warriors 8-4.  He was also named the games 2nd Star.
Kozun’s 11 points over the last four games has him sitting second among all WHL scorers with 96 points (37 goals, 59 assists) in 62 games and extends his point scoring streak to 12 games.  The Hitmen have extended their winning streak to eight games along with a regulation unbeaten streak of 13 games (12-0-1-0).  With a record of 51-7-3-1 the Calgary Hitmen continue to lead the WHL Central Division, Eastern Conference and entire WHL with 106 points, just 14 points shy of their Club record 120 points during the 1999-2000 season.
Kozun, an 18-year-old from Calgary, Alberta is currently playing his second full season in the Western Hockey League and with the Calgary Hitmen.  He has appeared in 142 regular season games with the Hitmen collecting 57 goals, 94 assists for a career total of 151 points.


The WHL has also nominated Juha Metsola of the Lethbridge Hurricanes for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week Award.  Metsola posted a 1-0-0-0 record this past week with a shut-out, stopping all 23 shots faced for a 0.000 goals-against average and 1.000 save percentage.

Metsola, a19-year-old import from Tampere, Finland, is in his second season of play in the Western Hockey League and helped lead the Hurricanes to last year’s 2008 WHL Eastern Conference title.  He was selected by the Lethbridge Hurricanes, 25th overall, at the 2007 CHL Import Draft.
