It may not have been one for the “Play of the Day”, but San Jose Sharks‘ rookie defenseman Mirco Mueller‘s first NHL goal still counts all the same. Mueller’s goal came in a losing effort, however, as the Sharks dropped a 4-3 shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild.

Mueller coralled the puck in the Wild zone, firing a shot towards Wild goaltender Darcy Kuemper from a bad angle. Fortunately for Mueller and unfortunately for Kuemper, the puck caromed off of Wild forward Zach Parise and into the net to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead in the game’s first period.

Mueller seems to have developed some chemistry with veteran defenseman Brent Burns in the early going. At the same time, the Sharks have indicated that they’ll bring their 2013 first round pick along slowly, but the future nonetheless looks bright for the Swiss rearguard.
