Greyhounds’ Robin Lehner Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

By League Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Robin Lehner of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 22.  Lehner backstopped the Hounds to three wins earning his first two career shutouts posting an impressive goals-against-average of 0.670 and a save percentage of .974.

Lehner was perfect last Wednesday night making 27 saves to earn his first career OHL shutout blanking the Sudbury Wolves 7-0 as third star of the game.  It did not take him long to earn his second career shutout as he made 25 saves and stopped the Sarnia Sting on all seven of their power play opportunities as second star of a 2-0 win on Saturday.  Lehner surrendered just two goals on 76 shots in three games with both goals allowed on Friday night in a 4-2 win on the road over the Guelph Storm where he turned aside 22 shots.

Lehner, an 18-year-old from Gothenburg, Sweden, is playing in his first OHL season after being selected by the Greyhounds ninth overall in the 2009 CHL Import Draft.  Lehner is an Ottawa Senators prospect also selected in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in the second round, 46th overall.  Lehner will also attend Sweden’s training camp for the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championships.

Also considered this week was QMJHL goaltender Nathan Dunnett of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and James Reid of the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs.  Both goaltenders won two games with Dunnett posting a 0.500 goals-against-average and .980 save percentage with a shutout victory Friday night with 25 saves as first star of a 2-0 win over the Rimouski Oceanic.  Reid posted a 1.500 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage in his two starts.
