By League Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Mathew Sisca of the Guelph Storm is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 20.  Sisca scored five goals in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Sisca’s week was highlighted by his second four-goal performance of the season on Saturday at home in a 4-3 win over the Plymouth Whalers where he was named first star of the game.  Two of his goals came in the second period with the other two scored in the third frame including the game-winner at 16:51.  Sisca had the help of Taylor Beck and Carter Sandlak who tallied four and three assists respectively in the contest.   Earlier in the week he also scored a second period power play goal on Friday night despite a 4-3 overtime loss to the Kitchener Rangers.

Sisca, a 19-year-old from Woodbridge, ON, is playing in his third OHL season and first full season with the Storm after playing two seasons in Niagara with the IceDogs.  Sisca leads the Storm in goals scored with 21 and is ranked second on the club with 28 points in 35 games.

Previous award winners Eric O’Dell of the Sudbury Wolves and Marcus Carroll of the Owen Sound Attack were also considered for the award this week.  O’Dell had a four-point game with two goals and two assists Friday night in a 5-4 loss to the Erie Otters as the game’s third star, while Carroll’s two goals and two assists earned him the second star leading the Attack to an 8-1 win over the Oshawa Generals on Sunday.  In goal, Troy Passingham of the Windsor Spitfires won two games posting a goals-against-average of 1.50 with a .952 save percentage.
