In a 2015 World Junior Championship game that was tightly contested through most of the first period, Canada took control and defeated the USA 5-3 in their New Year’s Eve showdown at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Both teams are headed to the quarterfinals on Friday, with Canada facing upstart Denmark and the USA facing off against Russia.

In the second of our series of Hockey’s Future podcasts, ISS Hockey‘s head scout in Quebec, Marc Lapointe, joins me to talk about Canada’s impressive win over the USA. Marc talks about some of the more impressive performers from the two teams in that game, including Darnell Nurse, Jake Virtanen, Lawson Crouse, and Sonny Milano. Marc also talks about the head-to-head meeting of the top two prospects for the 2015 NHL Draft, Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel.

And, although not covered in these podcasts (although most of the players were discussed individually), Marc chose his preliminary round All-Star team from Group B, which would be the following:

Forwards: Mikko Rantanen, Max Domi, Dylan Larkin; Defense: Madison Bowey, Josh Morrissey; Goal: Denis Godla
