Joey Hishon Named OHL Player of the Week

By League Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Joey Hishon of the Owen Sound Attack is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 2.  Hishon, a repeat winner of the award this season, had 11 points in three games scoring five goals and six assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

Hishon led the Attack to three wins following the Winter Break including a 6-5 comeback win over the Ottawa 67’s to open 2011 on Saturday.  He scored the tying goal and the game-winner late in the third period while adding three assists for his second five-point game of the season as first star of the contest.  Hishon also contributed to the offense in a pair of wins over the Barrie Colts to wrap up 2010 including a goal and an assist Tuesday in a 7-6 shootout win, and two goals and two assists Wednesday in an 8-5 win over the Colts.

Hishon, a 19-year-old from Stratford, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season with the Attack.  The first round selection of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft is currently sixth in league scoring with 53 points in 27 games.

Tyler Toffoli of the Ottawa 67’s and Taylor Carnevale of the Barrie Colts were both strongly considered.  Both players had 10 points in three games with Toffoli’s week highlighted by a five-goal game Wednesday as first star of a 9-0 win over the Kingston Frontenacs.  Carnevale produced two five-point games including a goal and four assists Friday night as first star of a 6-4 win over the Ottawa 67’s.  In goal, Mavric Parks of the Saginaw Spirit won two games in three starts including a 4-0 shutout win with 33 saves as first star of a 4-0 win over the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors on Sunday.
