Buffalo Sabres defenseman Jake McCabe last week watched from the pressbox as teammate Marcus Foligno setup Jack Eichel for the rookie’s first NHL goal. A week later, Foligno did the same for McCabe as the defenseman scored his first in a 3-2 loss to the Florida Panthers.
With the Panthers up 2-0 in the second period, Buffalo forward Nic Deslauriers gained control of the puck at the Sabres blueline and fed a pass up to a breaking Foligno. Foligno carried the puck into the Panthers zone along the right wall before launching a backhand pass across the front of the Florida net.
McCabe joined the Sabres after completing his junior season at the University of Wisconsin in 2014. The stocky defender spent most of last season with the Rochester Americans of the AHL, scoring five goals and 29 points in 57 games in 2014-15.
The amount of progress that Jake McCabe has made from opening of last year to now is really something
