Jonathan Huberdeau named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Florida Panthers prospect and Saint John Sea Dogs forward Jonathan Huberdeau is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 30 after scoring three goals and three assists for six points in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-6.

Huberdeau helped extend the Sea Dogs’ winning streak to seven games with a pair of victories beginning Friday night with a two-goal performance as second star of a 6-3 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.  He then picked up four points including a goal and three assists on Saturday in a 6-0 win over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on a night when the Sea Dogs celebrated their 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup title by raising their Championship Banners to the rafters of Harbour Station.

Huberdeau, an 18-year-old from St-Jerome, Quebec, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Sea Dogs.  The MVP of the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup selected by the Florida Panthers third overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft has 22 points in 10 games so far this season and will represent Team QMJHL in the SUBWAY Super Series next week.

Also considered for the award this week was Shane Prince of the Ottawa 67’s who recorded seven assists in two games.  In the WHL, Cody Beach helped the Moose Jaw Warriors win three games scoring four goals and four assists for eight points.
