Christopher Festarini named CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Christopher Festarini of the Niagara IceDogs is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending December 18 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record including one shutout with a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .983.

Festarini backstopped the IceDogs to two straight wins before the holiday break filling in for Canadian National Junior Team goaltender Mark Visentin.  He began his week Thursday night against his old team the Erie Otters and earned his first career shutout with 28 saves as third star of the 7-0 win.  Then on Saturday night Festarini stopped 31 shots to help the IceDogs to a 3-1 win over the Sudbury Wolves.

Festarini, an 18-year-old from Oakville, ON, is playing in his second full OHL season.  Since joining the IceDogs earlier this season he has made eight starts and carries a 6-2-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.69 with a .943 save percentage.

Also considered for the award this week was Adam Morrison of the Vancouver Giants who went 2-1-0-0 with a 1.70 goals-against-average and a .932 save percentage.  In the QMJHL, Gabriel Girard of the Shawinigan Cataractes went 2-0-0-0 with a 0.50 goals-against-average and a .979 save percentage with one shutout victory.
