Karel is entering his first year of professional hockey after being drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1997 (5th choice 112th overall). Karel scored his first professional goal new years eve in Fort Wayne against the Fort Wayne Komets. Karel was called up by the lightning on January 5 but a visa problem kept him from joining the team, but once the visa problemn was cleared up Karel was recalled to the team and made his NHL debut on Feb 15 against the New York Islanders. Karel had a good game assisting on 2 goals which helped the lightning tie the Isles 3-3. On feb 19 Karel was returned to Cleveland. Though Karel is only a rookie his style of play does not dictate that at all. He came into the Lumberjacks camp as one of the biggest defenceman and one of the most experienced ones. Though he only is a rookie it does not show at all. Karel see’s alot of ice time which is unusuall for a rookie entering in the pro ranks. He is used on the power play and when killing penalties, shifts normally reserved for the vetrans on the team. Karel is a stay at home defenceman who moves the puck well, but he must work on his physical play. A great player to watch and by watching him play you can tell he enjoys playing the game of hockey and soon you will see him up on the NHL blulines.

Brian Wiseman is on pace to collect 100 assists this season. That would rank him third all-time. The record is 113 set by Rob Brown in 1993-94 with the Kalamazoo Wings.
