Mid Season Update for HF Bruin Prospects 1-5

By Bob Willwerth

Andy Hilbert

Pro. Bruins GP 34 G 21 A 16 PTS 37 PIM 44

Bos. Bruins GP 12 G O A 3 PTS 3 PIM 7

Andy had a good second quarter of the season taking over the Providence Bruins goal scoring lead from Matt Herr . This editor predicted Andy would be a point a game scorer for the Providence Bruins . Andy has 37 points in 34 games . The Boston Bruins recalled Andy for 12 games averaging only 11:52 minutes in each contest , hardly a true test of his abilities .

Recently , Andy was sent back to the Providence Bruins . He didn’t sulk , he played with vengence scoring a goal and assisting on 2 others . Sooner or later Andy will be a regular in the NHL with the Bruins or another team . The Bruins may have concerns about Andy’s size .

Martin Samuelsson

Pro. Bruins GP 42 G 18 A 10 PTS 28 PIM 24

Bos. Bruins GP 3 G 0 A 0 PTS 0 PIM 2

Martin has moved up to prospect #2 with his strong second quarter of the season . His reputation was not being a strong goal finisher is unwarranted . Martin leads the Providence Bruins in powerplay goals with 10 and kills penalties . The Boston Bruins are concerned with Martin’s conditioning . Recently , Martin attended a high tempo practice of the Boston Bruins and had difficulty completing the workout . Martin has been taking a regular shift with the Boston Bruins but may need more seasoning in Providence .

Shaone Morrisonn

Pro. Bruins GP 38 G 4 A 13 PTS 17 PIM 50

Bos. Bruins GP 6 G 0 A 0 PTS 0 PIM 8

The young defenseman has a future with the Boston Bruins . Shaone is the second leading scoring defenseman on the Providence Bruins . Shaone plays on the powerplay and kills penalties . Recalled by the Bruins for 6 games Shaone played solidly but needs more seasoning in Providence to fully show his offensive ability . Shaone will be a regular with the Bruins either in 2003 or 2004 .

Ivan Huml

Pro. Bruins GP 4 G 2 A 3 PTS 5 PIM 6

Bos. Bruins GP 36 G 6 A 11 PTS 17 PIM 28

Hockey can be a humbling game , Ivan came out of training camp as the second line left wing and was the exhibition season leading goal scorer . Ivan has had an up and down season sometimes playing well and sometimes invisible . Most young players have trouble with consistency . Ivan has not played badly but was expected to be a scoring threat . Send down to Providence he is beginning to score again . The Bruins should not give up on this prospect , he has real talent . Ivan needs to improve his strength .

Lars Jonsson

Bjorkloven SEL2 GP 9 G 3 A 4 PTS 7 PIM 10

Lars could have played in the SEL but chose to play in the SEL2 . Moving to the SEL2 may be a wise choice as he seems to be regaining his offensive touch that surfaced in junior . In the SEL2 Lars is getting more ice time and can play an offensive game . Hopefully , Lars will follow Martin Samuelsson’s example and sign with the Bruins .
