Caps Russian Prospects Rise To The Occasion

Three of the Washington Capitals Russian prospects, Alexander Semin, Igor Schadilov, and Ivan Nepriayev are making their presence known in the currently on-going Russian Super League Playoffs.

Alexander Semin has made the most noise having scored five goals and assisting on three others (in nine games), before his team–Lada Togliatti–was defeated and swept 3-0 by Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the semifinals last week. Alexander was held to only one goal in the three game series. However, his play in the final weeks of the season and during the playoffs have caused many to rave, more so than they did at the end of last season.

Caps defensive prospect, Igor Schadilov has also made the official score sheet a few times during the playoffs as his team–Severstal Cherpovets–is matched up against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl for the Finals. Igor has notched one goal and three assists in ten games thus far in the playoffs, but has been quiet in the finals. In games last week, he assisted on a power-play goal with less than a minute left in regulation that capped-off a 2-0 victory and helped to seal his team’s trip to the Super League Finals. In quarterfinal play, Igor also scored the game winner in a 4-1 rout over Metallurg Magnitagorsk.

Ironically it is Ivan Nepriayev’s Lokomotiv team that is also in the Finals. However, Ivan has been quiet until now–having recently scored a goal in a 3-1 victory this past Saturday. Lokomotiv Yaroslav is up now 2 games to 1, as Ivan and his squad look to finish off Igor Schadilov and the Severstal Cherpovets. The Severstal squad won this evening 4-2 in a tight battle, as Nepriayev and his Lokomotiv team must now try and close out the series tomorrow night in the best of 5 series.
