Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Barrie Colts’ defenceman Ryan O’Connor is the OHL Player of the Week after leading the league with seven points in two games for the week ending December 9 scoring four goals and three assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-1.

O’Connor led the first place Colts to a pair of victories this past week helping the club maintain top spot in the Eastern Conference with 43 points through 30 games.  On Thursday night in a 5-2 victory over the Sudbury Wolves, O’Connor scored three goals and one assist as first star of the game.  Trailing 2-0 after the first period, the Colts got one back before O’Connor helped set-up Anthony Camara for his 20th goal of the season then went on to score three straight goals including the game-winner for his first career hat-trick.  On Saturday night against Kingston he opened the scoring just 19 seconds into the contest with his 14th goal of the season, then added two power play assists as third star of the 6-2 victory over the Frontenacs.

O’Connor, a 20-year-old from Hamilton, ON, is playing in his fifth OHL season.  Tied for second in scoring among defencemen, O’Connor has 31 points in 27 games so far this season and is just 10 points shy of his career-high of 41 set in 2010-11 with the Saginaw Spirit.

Also considered for the award this week was Justin Auger of the Guelph Storm who scored two goals and four assists for six points in three games, and the Wolves’ Mathew Campagna who scored a goal and five assists for six points in three games.  In goal, JP Anderson of the Sarnia Sting went 2-0-0-1 including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.97 and save percentage of .973.
