Justin Keller Named the CHL Player of the Week

Toronto – The Canadian Hockey League announced today that Kelowna Rockets forward Justin Keller is the CHL Player of the Week.

Keller was named the CHL Player of the Week after scoring seven goals and nine points in four games last week. The native of Summerland, British Columbia was named the first star in three games while helping lead the Rockets to an undefeated week. Keller’s best game came on Saturday when he scored two goals including the game winner in a 4-3 victory over the Tri-City Americans. Keller was also named the CHL Player of the Week back on Decemeber 22, 2005. Keller currently sits tied for third in the WHL scoring race with 79 points this season. The Rockets forward has tallied 46 goals this season to sit in a tie for first amongst all WHL snipers.

Francois Thuot was the OHL Player of the Week and ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week after going 2-0 against a pair of US rival teams. Thuot helped the Spirit beat the Erie Otters and Plymouth Whalers last week and was named the first star in each of the games. Derick Brassard of the Drummondville Voltigeurs was the QMJHL’s Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals and seven points in two games last week. Brassard was named the first star in both of the games and helped the Voltigeurs extend their winning streak to nine games. Ondrej Pavelec of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles was named the QMJHL’s Defensive Player of the Week after picking up a shutout and posting a .963 percentage and a 1.34 goals against average. Pavelec now has a goals against average of 2.56 on the season and is presently the front-runner for the Jacques Plante Trophy, given each year to the goaltender with the best regular season goals-against-average.
