Radek Smolenak Named the CHL Player of the Week

Toronto – The Canadian Hockey League announced today that Kingston Frontenacs forward Radek Smolenak is the CHL Player of the Week.

Radek Smolenak scored six goals and eight points in three games last week while helping to lead the Frontenacs to a 3-0 record which clinched home ice advantage for the club in the first round of the OHL playoffs. The Frontenacs forward started the week with two goals in a 5-4 win over the Mississauga IceDogs on March 8. Smolenak added a goal in a 5-2 win over the Barrie Colts on March 10 and was the first star after scoring two goals and three assists in a 6-4 win over the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors on March 12. Smolenak, a 19-year-old native of Prague, leads the Frontenacs with 42 goals and has 40 assists for 82 points in 61 games this season.

David Reekie of the Regina Pats was the WHL Player of the Week after going 4-0 on the road last week while posting a goals against average of 1.75 and a save percentage of .940. Olivier Latendresse of the Val d’Or Foreurs was the QMJHL’s Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals including one game-winner and 11 points in three games last week. The Foreurs winger is currently third in the QMJHL scoring race with 123 points. David Tremblay of the Gatineau Olympiques was named the QMJHL’s Defensive Player of the Week and also the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week after going 3-0 while posting a .955 save percentage and a 1.30 goals against average.
