Medicine Hat Tigers – WHL Regular Season Champions

CALGARY, AB – Calgary – The Western Hockey League announced today that the Medicine Hat Tigers have won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as WHL Regular Season Champions for the first time since the 1985-86 season and only the second time in franchise history.

The Tigers regular season record was 47-16-1-8 for 103 points in 72 games played.

Medicine Hat joined the Western Hockey League in 1970-71. The Tigers have captured the WHL Championship Trophy as the Playoff Champions four times. Their first title was in 1972-73, then back-to-back seasons, 1986-87 and 1987-88 and the latest was in 2003-04. The Tigers have also captured the MasterCard Memorial Cup on two occasions, back-to-back years in 1986-87 and 1987-88.

The Tigers were led by Team MVP Darren Helm, who recorded 41 goals and 79 points and goaltender Matt Keetley, who recorded 42 wins, the most in the WHL among goaltenders.

Scotty Munro was one of the original founders of the Western Hockey League. Munro was the general manager of the Estevan Bruins and the general manager and coach of the Calgary Centennials.
