OHL Press Release

Toronto – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Oshawa Generals’ forward John Tavares is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 3, 2006. The native of Oakville, Ontario scored six goals and added six assists for 12 points in three games last week. He also finished the week with a plus/minus rating of plus seven.

Tavares helped the Generals to a 6-5 shootout win in Ottawa on Friday night by scoring a goal and adding three assists. He was named first star of the game for his efforts. The next night in the back end of a home and home series with the 67’s Tavares scored two goals and had a five-point game as Oshawa defeated Ottawa 8-2. Once again Tavares was the game’s first star. Sunday evening the Generals won their third game in three nights by beating the Kingston Frontenacs at the General Motors Centre. Also for the third night in a row Tavares was the first star of the game as he notched a hat trick and added an assist.

Tavares is currently in the midst of a 10-game point streak and has scored at least one goal in the past eight games. The goal scoring streak ties him for the longest such streak this season with Matt Halishuk of the Kitchener Rangers who scored in eight straight games from October 28 through November 16. Tavares currently leads the OHL with 29 goals in 27 games and is tied for fourth in the OHL with 52 points in 27 games.

Tavares was recently selected to participate in the final selection camp for Canada’s National Junior Team. The camp will begin on December 10, 2006. This selection was made following his recent strong play in the 2006 ADT Canada Russia Challenge.
