2007 OHL Priority Selection Concluded

Ryan O’Reilly of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens was the first overall selection of the Erie Otters in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection on Saturday, May 5th.

O’Reilly collected 31 goals and 43 assists for 74 points in 50 games with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens during the 2006-07 season. The 16 year-old from Varna, Ontario also played five games (one regular season and four playoff) with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League collecting three goals.

“I believe I’m a player that has good vision, playmaking abilities and a strong work ethic,” O’Reilly said on Saturday. “I am thrilled to join the Erie Otters, their a first class organization and I look forward to joining the team in the fall.”

O’Reilly will be the second family member to play in the OHL next year with older brother Cal, having played three seasons with the Windsor Spitfires (2003-2006) where he collected 45 goals and 149 assists for 194 points in 197 regular season games.

The Windsor Spitfires followed up by selecting forward Taylor Hall from Greater Kingston Minor Midgets.

Jordan Mayer was also selected from Greater Kingston in the first round. The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds selected the forward 13th overall.

The Toronto St. Michael’s Majors selected Casey Cizikas from the Mississauga IceDogs Minor Midgets third overall.

Andrew Agozzino was also selected from the Mississauga IceDogs Minor Midgets in the first round. The Mississauga IceDogs selected the forward 15th overall.

The Peterborough Petes selected forward Zack Kassian from the Windsor Minor Midgets with the fourth overall pick and the Brampton Battalion rounded out the top five when they selected forward Matthew Duchene from the Central Ontario Wolves.

The following is a breakdown of where the 300 players were selected from at the 2007 OHL Priority Selection: 93 – OMHA, 54 – GTHL, 52 – USA, 47 – Alliance, 26 – Ottawa District, 12 – NOHA, 9 – Junior, 5 – Hockey North and 2 – High School.
