Allard and Bernier win TELUS player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, October 15, 2007 – St. John’s Fog Devils forward Jean-Simon Allard and Gatineau Olympiques defenseman Sébastien Bernier today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from October 8 to 14.

In four contests, the Fog Devils forward registered four goals and four assists while maintaining a +2 (plus/minus) differential. He enjoyed his best game of the week against the Halifax Mooseheads on Wednesday, collecting one goal and three assists in a 6-1 win at home. Allard was named the game’s first star. He is the top point-getter for the Fog Devils with a total of fifteen points.

Jakub Voracek (1-5-6) of Halifax as well as Dean Ouellet (1-5-6) and Jonathan Laberge (3-3-6) of Cape Breton were also considered.

The defensive player of the week award goes to Gatineau Olympiques defenseman Sébastien Bernier. In four games, Bernier scored three goals and assisted on three others while posting a +2 differential. He registered two points in each of his team’s three wins this week over the Voltigeurs, the Rocket and the Foreurs. Moreover, Bernier helped Gatineau shut down its opponents as the Olympiques surrendered only seven goals over the four-game span. After fifteen contests, Bernier leads all QMJHL defensemen in scoring with twelve points.

Defenseman Kevin Marshall (2-2-4;+2) of Lewiston as well as goaltenders Marco Cousineau (2-0-0; 120 MIN; 1.50 GAA; .949 SAV%) of Baie-Comeau and Michaël Dupont (2-1-0; 178 MIN; 2.02 GAA; .931 SAV%) of Rimouski were also considered.
