BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, October 22, 2007 – Halifax Mooseheads forward Jakub Voracek and Quebec Remparts goaltender Kevin Desfossés today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from October 15 to 21.
In three games, the all-star forward scored a game-winning goal and collected six assists. Moreover, he had a hand in 7 of the team’s 12 goals. Voracek enjoyed his best outing of the week on Thursday as he scored the game-winner in a 4-2 win over the St. John’s Fog Devils. He also added two assists and was recognized as the game’s first star. Since his return from Columbus, Voracek has registered twenty-two points in only eight games. He is fourth in the League in scoring, four points behind leader Dean Ouellet of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
Chris Doyle (4-1-5) of PEI, Stefano Giliati (3-3-6) of Lewiston and Claude Giroux (4-2-6) of Gatineau were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Quebec Remparts goaltender Kevin Desfossés for a second time this season. In two road games, Desfossés registered two wins while maintaining a 1.44 goals-against-average and .956 save percentage. In the first of his two starts on Thursday, Desfossés made 34 stops in a 3-1 win over archrival Chicoutimi. Then on Saturday, he turned away 31 shots in regulation as well as three of the four skaters he faced in the shootout in a 3-2 victory over the Drakkar. Desfossés has posted a 2.46 goals-against-average since the start of the season.
