Since Jarmo Kekäläinen took over the general manager duties for the Columbus Blue Jackets, the organization has shown a fondness for European prospects, particularly in the later rounds. The 2015 NHL Draft was a prime example of that when the Jackets went overseas for five of their nine draft picks, and given the success of some of those picks already it’s a trend that could be expected to continue. There weren’t many changes to the Philadelphia Flyers top 20 prospects. But there is a new number one, with Shayne Gostisbehere taking the lead because of his impact at the NHL level. Other prospects saw jumps, including Merrick Madsen, Cooper Marody and Travis Konecny. Read more »

Tampa Bay Lightning General Manager Steve Yzerman has maintained a fine balance between keeping a competitive team on the ice with Stanley Cup aspirations, while still having a strong prospect group. The team’s top five scorers were all drafted and developed in-house and there’s a wave of prospects in Syracuse of the AHL that could be ready to fill voids left by departing free agents next season. The second NHL Draft for the Toronto Maple Leafs under President and General Manager Brian Burke saw the team make seven selections in the draft, however only two of the picks were originally theirs. In a whirlwind of activity, Burke traded five of their original picks and re-acquired five in a series of player trades and transactions to move the Leafs up or down in the draft.
