2013-14: Alexander Nylander competed for SDE HF’s U16 and J18 teams, as well as Sodertalje’s J18 Allsvenskan club. In 21 games for SDE HF’s J18 team, he scored 9 goals and added 27 assists for 36 points. With Sodertalje, Nylander played in 17 games, scoring 12 goals and assisting on 10 for 22 points.

2014-15: Nylander competed for the AIK organization, spending most of the season with the J20 SuperElit team. In 42 games for that team, he scored 15 goals and chipped in 25 assists for 40 points, then picked up one more assist in 2 playoff games. Nylander also saw action in 3 Allsvenskan games for AIK, going pointless in those games but picking up 1 goal and 1 assist for 2 points in 4 playoff games for that team. Nylander represented Sweden at the 2014 World U17 Hockey Challenge where he scored 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points in 6 games for the bronze medalists. Nylander was chosen in two drafts after the season, the first being the 2015 USHL Entry Draft where he was chosen in the 15th round, 239th overall, by the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Later, he was chosen in the first round, 12th overall, of the 2015 CHL Import Draft by the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL.

2015-16: Nylander moved to North America to compete for the Mississauga Steelheads. Nylander represented Sweden in international play, first at the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament where he scored 2 goals and added 4 assists for 6 points in 5 games for the silver medalists. He also played for Team Sweden at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship where he netted 4 goals and chipped in 5 assists for 9 points in 7 games. Nylander competed for Team Orr at the 2016 BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game where he went pointless for the winning side. Nylander was ranked 3rd overall among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting in their midterm rankings for the 2016 NHL Draft. He was ranked 4th overall by ISS Hockey in their March rankings. Nylander was chosen in the first round, eighth overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres.

He is certainly not complaining, but Oskar Sundqvist scored the first goal of his NHL career and an unlikely source assisted on it. Also featured are two goals scored tie-tac-toe style, and a pair of between-the-legs efforts that are just too good to be true. Change has come to ISS Hockey’s February rankings for the 2016 NHL Draft, but not within the Top 10 or much of the Top 30, for that matter.
