Miele, was the leading scorer for Miami University as a senior and led the nation in points and assists, scoring 24 goals with 47 assists in 39 games. He was +22 with 35 PMs. Miami finished third in the CCHA and won its first ever league playoff title, advancing to the NCAA tournament. Miele skated in two of eighth-place USA’s seven games in Slovakia and was an even plus/minus with 2 assists. Miele signed a two-year, entry-level contract with Phoenix in April, 2011.

Miele scored 1 goal with 2 assists and was +1 with 15 penalty minutes in the series. He was re-signed as a restricted free agent to a one-year contract by Phoenix in July, 2013.

Talent Analysis

Tremendously gifted offensively with a very high skill level, Miele is an undersized forward who makes putting up points look easy. A playmaker by trade, he can also surprise opposing goaltenders with a quick release and accurate shot. He has not had any trouble at this point transferring his offensive prowess from the NCAA to the AHL.

Miele signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Detroit Red Wings for the 2014-15 season.

Legal squabbles between the Board of Trustees of Portland, Maine’s Cumberland County Civic Center and the ownership group of their primary tenant, the Portland Pirates, have relegated the team to the northern reaches of Maine for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, on the ice, the Phoenix Coyotes AHL affiliate finds themselves in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference standings.

In 1995, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Tie Domi knocked New York Rangers defenseman Ulf Samuelsson unconscious with a sucker punch that is still considered one of the dirtiest plays in recent NHL history. This year, their sons could be the ones connecting, on scoring plays rather than right hooks.
