History
-07: Corey Tropp’s second season with the Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL) was exceedingly better than his first season with the club. In 54 games he potted 26 goals and 62 points, while also racking up 76 penalty minutes; all of his numbers from this season were career-highs. Expect to see him at Michigan State University (CCHA) next season. Tropp was chosen in the third round, 89th overall, of the 2007 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres.
-08: The forward appeared in all of MSU’s (CCHA) games in what was his freshman season as a Spartan. He netted six goals and 17 points, while having several multi-point games on the season.
-09: Tropp scored 3 goals with 8 assists as a sophomore for Michigan State University (CCHA). Despite appearing in just 21 games, Tropp was fourth on the Spartans with 45 PMs and was -10 plus/minus for a Spartans’ team that won just ten games.
-10: Tropp had a break-out offensive season as a junior for Michigan State while continuing to play with the proverbial “edge”. He scored 9 of his 20 goals on the power play and tallied five game-winning goals and 22 assists. Tropp’s 42 points led all Spartan scorers while his 50 PMs were second only to freshman defenseman Torey Krug’s 67 PMs. Tropp signed an entry-level deal with Buffalo following the season; foregoing his final year of NCAA eligibility.
-11: Tropp continued to combine goal scoring with physical play in his first year of pro hockey with Portland (AHL). In 76 games with the Pirates he scored 10 goals (four on the power play) and had 30 assists while racking up 113 PMs. For the season he was a -5 plus/minus. In 12 AHL playoff games he scored 2 goals with 5 assists and was +3 with 12 PMs.
-12: Tropp made his NHL debut with the Sabres on November 4th and scored his first NHL goal in his third game (four nights later against Winnipeg). Shuffling between Buffalo and AHL Rochester in his second pro season, he scored 3 goals with 5 assists and was an even plus/minus with 20 penalty minutes while averaging 10 minutes of ice time in 34 NHL games. Tropp scored 9 goals with 13 assists in 27 games with Rochester and was plus-one while racking up 46 penalty minutes. In the Amerks three-game playoff series with Toronto he was minus-two with no points and 8 penalty minutes.
-13: Tropp’s third pro season came to an end after just six games when he suffered a season-ending knee injury. He was off to a fast start for Buffalo’s AHL affiliate in Rochester, scoring 2 goals with 2 assists, and was -1 with 7 penalty minutes for the Amerks. He was re-signed as a restricted free agent by Buffalo to a one-year contract in August, 2013.
