2012-13: Erik Foley played for Tabor Academy in Massachusetts and skated for the Neponset Valley River Rats U16 team. Foley, a freshman, shared the scoring lead for the Seawolves with junior Joseph Slovak. He scored 9 goals with a team-leading 19 assists in 27 games. Tabor missed the New England prep school tournament, finishing 8-18-1. Foley scored 4 goals with 10 assists and 2 penalty minutes in 12 games for the River Rats. Foley was selected by Cedar Rapids in the sixth round (80th overall) in the USHL Futures Draft and participated in USA Hockey’s Select 15 camp in Rochester in July. 

2013-14: Foley made his USHL debut with Cedar Rapids late in the season after leading Tabor Academy in scoring as a sophomore and playing midget hockey with the Cape Cod Whalers U18 team. In three games with the RoughRiders, including two Clark Cup playoff games, he had no points and was -3 with 2 penalty minutes. Foley scored 17 goals with 20 assists in 28 games for Tabor. He scored 8 goals with 4 assists and 2 penalty minutes in 10 games for Cape Cod. He committed to playing college hockey at Providence College in 2015-16 in October 2013. 

2014-15: Foley left Tabor Academy to skate in the USHL, leading Cedar Rapids in scoring as a rookie after playing for the USA U18 team at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in August. He scored 27 goals with 27 assists and was +12 with 80 penalty minutes. The RoughRiders finished second in the Eastern Conference and were swept by Dubuque in the playoff quarterfinals. Foley scored 1 goal and was -1 with 6 penalty minutes in three playoff games. In five games at the Ivan Hlinka tournament he scored 2 goals with 1 assist and 4 penalty minutes for the bronze medal-winning USA squad. He skated for Team Olczyk in the 2014 All-American Prospects Game and was invited to the NHL Prospects Combine. Foley was ranked 51st amongst North American skaters in the 2015 Central Scouting final rankings prior to the 2015 NHL Draft. 


Foley will play for Providence College in the 2015-16 season.

There’s a large sign at the entrance of the Holiday Inn in Dubuque, host city of the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, that lists the number of NHL Draft picks that have come out of the United States Hockey League (USHL) in recent years. In 2010, 22 players were selected. Last year it was 35, plus 16 alums that were drafted out of NCAA hockey. This year, 54 USHL players, plus six alums, are listed on NHL Central Scouting’s “Watch List” and have the potential to be selected this year. Read more»
