2013-14: Jakob Chychrun, who played for the Little Ceasers program the season prior, competed for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens of the GTHL. In 29 games for that team, Chychrun scored 16 goals and added 27 assists for 43 points, then added five goals and eight assists in 14 playoff games. The Canadiens won the Kraft Cup as league champions, then took home the silver medal at the 2014 OHL Cup. Chychrun was named to the Team Ontario squad that competed at the 2014 World U17 Hockey Challenge, where he scored a goal and added three assists in five games. Chychrun was the first overall pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection, where he was chosen by the Sarnia Sting. He is the son of former NHL defenseman Jeff Chychrun and the nephew of another former NHL defenseman, Luke Richardson.

2014-15: Chychrun competed in his OHL rookie season with Sarnia, albeit an injury-shortened one. In 42 games for the Sting, Chychrun scored 16 goals and added 17 assists for 33 points. he was named to the league’s First All-Rookie Team, and to the OHL Third All-Star Team.

2015-16: Chychrun skated in his second season with the Sarnia Sting. He took part in Team Canada’s U20 selection camp, but failed to make the team. Chychrun competed for Team Cherry at the 2016 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, where he was named the team captain after Tyler Benson was unable to take part in that game. Chychrun competed for Team Canada at the 2016 U18 World Championship in April. Chychrun was ranked second among North American skaters for the 2016 NHL Draft by NHL Central Scouting in their midterm rankings, and he is currently ranked fifth overall by ISS Hockey. Chychrun was chosen in the first round, 16th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes.

Change has come to ISS Hockey’s February rankings for the 2016 NHL Draft, but not within the Top 10 or much of the Top 30, for that matter.
