Talent Analysis
Roy is an offensive defenseman with great vision and a deceivingly quick shot from the point. He was one of the QMJHL’s top defensemen in the 2014-15 season. He is by no means a horse on the blue line, able to physically overpower the opposition, but he utilizes good skating ability and hockey smarts in playing sound defensive hockey.
Future
Roy will skate in his first training camp with the Sharks before likely returning to Sherbrooke for his third QMJHL season in 2015-16. He is also a candidate to skate for the Canada U20 team at the World Juniors as an 18-year-old. Long-term Roy projects as a top-four skating defenseman capable of controlling the play with his puck moving ability and preventing scoring opportunities by reading the play.
