Sharing the goaltending duties with Merrimack College recruit Drew Vogler, Tomek was 24-7 with 6 shutouts in 33 regular season games. He had a .928 save percentage and his 1.83 goals against was second only to Janesville’s Matt Jurusik (1.57) amongst NAHL goaltenders. Topeka finished second in the South Division behind Lone Star and reached the third round in the playoffs before falling to the Brahmas. Tomek was 4-2 in seven playoff games and had a 3.20 goals against and .876 save percentage. In January he announced he would play college hockey at the University of North Dakota in 2015-16. 2015-16: Tomek did not see any action for the national champion University of North Dakota as a freshman as the Fighting Sioux’s third goalie behind sophomore Cameron Johnson and fellow freshman Matt Hrynkiw. North Dakota finished first in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference in the regular season. The Fighting Sioux earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, falling to Minnesota-Duluth, 4-2, in the NCHC semifinals and tying Denver, 1-1, in the conference’s third-place game. North Dakota defeated Northeastern (6-2) and Michigan (5-2) to capture the Midwest Regional and topped Denver, 4-2, in the Frozen Four semifinals before defeating Quinnipiac, 5-1, in the national championship game.
Talent Analysis
One of the best goaltenders to come out of the NAHL in his draft year, Tomek is technically sound. He plays a butterfly style.
Future
Tomek was on the roster for NCAA national champion North Dakota in 2015-16 but did not appear in any games as the team's third goalie. Sophomore Cameron Johnson had an outstanding season in net for the Fighting Sioux and with Johnson and backup Matt Hrynkiw slated to return Tomek faces an uphill battle in earning ice time.
