2006-07: Ostrcil had a career-best season in the Czech Under 20 league with HC Vsetin, posting 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists) and 69 penalty minutes in 25 games. He played for Vsetin in the Czech Extraliga as well, the highest level league in the Czech Republic, during which he appeared in 37 games and tallied a total of 2 points during the 2006-07 season. Add to Ostrcil’s resume a strong showing at the 2007 WJC U-18. Selected by the Ottawa 67's in the 1st round (17th overall) of the 2007 Import Draft
2007-08: Played his rookie season with Ottawa — a frustrating season where he saw limited playing time and diminished responsibility.
2008-09: Returned to the Czech Republic to play for Olomouc in the Czech Republic's second level. Playing with HC Olomouc, the left-shooting defenseman took some time adjusting from junior to senior hockey in 1.liga. He finished the 2008-09 season with a -9 rating in his 38 games. In those games, he scored only one goal and had three assists while accumulating 18 minutes in penalties. He played six games for the Czech under-20 team, recording three assists and four penalty minutes, but did not end up playing in the World Junior Championships. HC Olomouc lost to HC Kometa Brno in the Quarter Finals of the 1.Liga playoffs. Ostrcil finished the playoffs -1 in five games with four minutes in penalties.
2009-10: Ostrcil remained in the Czech Republic; appearing in five Czech Extraliga games (including three playoff contests) with Kometa Brno and spending the bulk of the season with second division Slavia Trebic. Ostrcil was scoreless with 2 PMs in his stint with Brno. In 41 games with Trbic, he scored 1 goal with 12 assists and 38 PMs. In 11 playoff contests, he scored 2 goals with 5 assists and 12 PMs.
2010-11: Ostrcil again split the season between Kometa Brno and Slavia Trbec in the Czech Republic. Ostrcil appeared in 19 games (including relegation playoffs) for Kometa Brno, which finished 11th in the 14-team Extraliga. He had 5 assists and was -2 with 16 PMs for Brno. In 46 games with Slavia Trebic, he scored 4 goals with 19 assists and received 38 PMs.
Ostrcil is an offensive defenseman with good overall passing and stickhandling ability, as well as a strong wrist shot. He is sound positionally and sees the ice well. Though he's strong in playmaking and creating offense, he sometimes sacrifices his defensive responsibilities. Could use additional work on his skating.
It seems unlikely that Ostrcil will ever suit up for the Bruins.
