With opening night having come to pass, the Washington Captials can count two major prospects in the professional level now. Heavily-touted prospects Andre Burakovsky and Evgeny Kuznetsov played for the Capitals on opening night of the 2014-15 season against the Montreal Canadiens, with Burakovsky picking up the Capitals first goal of the season.

The Washington Capitals made several trades to bolster their lineup for a late-season playoff push, but the most exciting addition to their lineup came in the form of top prospect Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Over the past few seasons, Washington Capitals General Manager George McPhee has shown a tendency towards drafting European and college-bound prospects. As a result, the Capitals only have eight prospects competing in the junior ranks, three of which are developing in the USHL before making the jump to college hockey.

The Washington Capitals have stockpiled a top-heavy group of prospects featuring forwards such as Evgeny Kuznetsov, Tom Wilson, and Chandler Stephenson. On the blue line and in net, the cupboard is a bit drier, but there still are some promising young players like Philipp Grubauer and Madison Bowey.

The Washington Capitals have worked hard at retooling their system over the last several seasons and are starting to see the fruits of that labor, with a list of players of all shapes and sizes, from all leagues, and of all different styles.
