Jurco, Ouellet among Wings prospects to enjoy long post-seasons

Success in Hockeytown is measured in Stanley Cups, but unfortunately, the Detroit Red Wings and their local affiliates came up well short of their intended goals this past season. The Red Wings made the playoffs but failed to advance past the division rival Nashville Predators in the first round. The AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins missed the playoffs altogether. They won just three of their final 10 games down the stretch and missed the playoffs by nine points. At the ECHL level, the Toledo Walleye posted the third-worst record in the league as they were unable to clinch a postseason berth for the second straight season. It was a disappointing spring for most Red Wings prospects abroad as well, though there were several notable exceptions.

2012 World Championship: Medal Day Wrap-Up

Sunday was Medal Day at the 2012 World Championship, with Russia coming away with the gold medal following a 6-2 win over Slovakia at Hartwell Arena in Helsinki, FinlandSlovakia took home silver while the Czech Republic scored the bronze medal with a 3-2 win over Finland.

Hockey's Future spoke with some of the players taking part in these two games following those matches, with those interviews being presented below.

2012 World Championship: Semi-Final Interviews

The 2012 World Championship is heading towards its conclusion in Helsinki, Finland.  Today was the semi-final round, with Russia and Slovakia advancing to the final following their victories today.

2012 World Championship: Tomas Tatar, Slovakia

Forward Thomas Tatar is no stranger to putting on a big performance for his native Slovakia at international tournaments. He was one of the big stars for an upstart Slovakian team at the 2008 WJC in Canada. Thus, it shouldn’t be a surprise that he was right in the middle of things here in Helsinki for Slovakia’s huge quarterfinal victory over Canada.

Tomas Jurco and his Slovakian teammates had been viewed as a never-say-die team following their plucky performances in the preliminary round of the 2012 World Junior Championships.  But there was to be no comeback win for Slovakia this time around as Finland dropped the Slovaks from medal contention with an 8-5 quarter-final win.

Jurco talked about the loss to Finland following the game.
